By MARI YAMAGUCHI and FOSTER KLUG (Associated Press)WAKAYAMA, Japan (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated unharmed Saturday after someone threw an explosive device in his direction while he was campaigning at a fishing port in western Japan, officials said. Police wrestled a suspect to the ground as screaming bystanders scrambled to get away and smoke filled the air.One police officer was slightly hurt and Kishida continued campaigning Saturday, but the chaotic scene was reminiscent of the assassination nine months ago of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which also came on a campaign tour and continues to reverberate in Japanese politics. Kishida was visiting Saikazaki port in Wakayama prefecture to support his ruling party’s candidate in a local election, and the explosion occurred just before he was to begin his speech.A young man believed to be a suspect was arrested Saturday at the scene after he allegedly threw “the suspicious object,” Chief Cabinet Secret...Oakland police still searching for missing man from 2019

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Fulham ended an alarming run of Premier League defeats by beating Everton 3-1 on Saturday as Marco Silva claimed a first win against his former employers to damage their attempt to avoid relegation.Harrison Reed put the Cottagers ahead midway through the first half but Everton hit back through Dwight McNeil and seemed the likeliest to score again before halftime at Goodison Park. But the momentum swung back toward Fulham when Harry Wilson put the visitors back ahead just after the break. Dan James sealed victory to snap Fulham’s sequence of five successive losses. With Fulham in the ascendancy, Everton’s players became increasingly disjointed and were booed off at the full-time whistle after squandering the chance to put daylight between themselves and the Premier League relegation zone. Everton remains above the bottom three on goal difference alone. This will be especially frustrating for Everton manager Sean Dyche, whose side have a much better ...Ready or not, Durant, Suns prepare for Clippers series

PHOENIX (AP) — Kevin Durant’s arrival in the desert hasn’t gone exactly to plan. Because of injuries, the 13-time All-Star has played just eight games with the Phoenix Suns since he was acquired in a mid-February franchise shakeup. But those eight games sure were impressive. The Suns are unbeaten when Durant plays, giving the franchise plenty of hope that it can win an NBA championship for the first time in its 55 seasons. No. 4 seed Phoenix opens the playoffs Sunday against the No. 5 seed Los Angeles Clippers.“Chemistry matters, being on the same page with your team matters,” Durant said. “In a perfect world, I would have loved to play more than eight games with this team. But I’ve just got to rest on me playing 1,000 games in the NBA.“I’ll figure it out.”Durant’s arrival has given the Suns a star quartet that also includes Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. Phoenix is trying to make it back to the NBA Finals for the second time in three s...Grand National race delayed after activists get onto track

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — The Grand National, one of the world’s most famous horse races, was delayed Saturday after animal rights activists scaled fences around the perimeter of Aintree racecourse and got onto the track. The developments came after three people were arrested in connection with a plan by the activists to disrupt the race. All three were arrested on “suspicion of conspiracy to cause public nuisance,” Merseyside Police said. Some of the activists from an estimated group of 300 climbed the high fences around the racecourse and got onto the track a few minutes before the race was scheduled to start, apparently attempting to handcuff themselves to the obstacles.Police and security officials were seen stopping other activists and shaking the perimeter fences to prevent others mounting them. The race was delayed as a result and the 39 horses were kept in the parade ring. It was originally scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. local time (1615 GMT).A 25-year-old woman and a ma...Rublev reaches Monte Carlo final again; Sinner faces Rune

MONACO (AP) — Fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev reached the Monte Carlo Masters final for the second time after rallying to beat eighth-seeded American Taylor Fritz 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in a rain-interrupted contest on Saturday. The Russian player, who lost in the final two years ago, goes for his 13th career title and first at Masters level against either sixth-seeded Dane Holger Rune or No. 7 Jannik Sinner of Italy. They played later Saturday, with the 21-year-old Sinner competing in his third straight Masters semi this season.Under cloudy skies, Rublev leveled the match on his fourth set point when Fritz, the French Open junior runner-up in 2015, double-faulted for the fifth time.He broke Rublev to lead 2-1 in the deciding set but trailed 15-40 in the next game. Fritz won a 40-stroke rally to save one break point, but Rublev let out a roar after a stinging backhand down the line won the next point as he broke straight back. He then held for 3-2 as the rain started falling more heavily. The chair ...NHL playoffs: Can anyone in the East beat the Boston Bruins?

After winning an NHL-record 65 games and steamrolling opponents since October, the Boston Bruins look like the clear favorite to come out of the East and win the Stanley Cup.The reality? “Everyone’s 0-0,” veteran forward Charlie Coyle said. The climb to try to win the franchise’s first championship in more than a decade begins with a series against the Florida Panthers. Injuries could make Boston vulnerable in the second round against Toronto or Tampa Bay and in the conference final against either Carolina, New Jersey, the New York Rangers or Islanders. But the Bruins’ talent, consistency and depth make them look like they can overcome it all.“The confidence level is high,” coach Jim Montgomery said. “We believe that it’s going to be hard, and we don’t talk about winning the Stanley Cup now. We talk about Game 1, that’s going to be our focus. We think that not looking too far ahead that creates anxiety. We believe in staying present and our process allows us to have succe...Dortmund wastes great chance to move level with Bayern

BERLIN (AP) — Neither Borussia Dortmund nor Bayern Munich could seize their opportunity on Saturday. Borussia Dortmund conceded three late goals against 10-man Stuttgart and squandered the chance to capitalize on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.Gio Reyna temporarily fired Dortmund level on points with Bayern at the top of the table when he scored in injury time, but there was still time for Silas Katompa Mvumpa to score Stuttgart’s even later equalizer for 3-3, leaving Dortmund two points behind Bayern with six rounds remaining.Hoffenheim forward Andrej Kramarić struck what seemed a decisive blow in the title race with a free kick that canceled Benjamin Pavard’s opening goal for Bayern, but Dortmund failed to make the most of its two-goal lead against Stuttgart that had a player less for the whole second half.___More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports SourceLatest news
